New express service from Holwerd to Ameland
In the summer of 2017, the plans for a new fast ferry service became solid. From that moment on, Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten has started the construction and started the consultation to get approval on the transport plan. After a positive assessment of the request for advice by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the Consumer Platform Waddenveren Oost and the decentralized authorities, the grantor also agreed. From that moment on, behind the scenes everything has been set in motion to give substance to the communication around the express service. We succeeded. From March 28, 2018 m.s. Fostaborg according to timetable.
This ship, built entirely on Frisian soil, will allow the shipping company to carry 48 passengers per crossing to and from Ameland. This gives a new dimension to traveling across the Wadden Sea, because passengers can make the crossing safely and quickly at a speed of no less than forty kilometers per hour. The realization of the new express service is the result of the Open Plan Process, consisting of Rijkswaterstaat, the municipality of Ameland and Wagenborg Passenger Services. The express service was one of the five measures advised to reduce the consequences of the delays occurring between Ameland and Holwerd. “m.s. Fostaborg will soon provide a connection that is less affected by the current state of the navigation channel,” explains Ger van Langen.
